Terreno
A plot of land. The word alone tells you almost nothing — what matters is the classification, and there are two very different worlds: urbano (building land) and rústico (rural).
Where people slip: a listing saying "terreno" does not mean you can build a house on it. What may be built, how much of it and whether at all is decided by the municipality’s master plan (PDM) and the licensing process — not by the seller’s description, and not by the fact that a neighbour built something years ago. Rural land very often cannot take a dwelling, and changing that classification is rarely a formality.
Do this: before any deposit, read the classification on the caderneta predial and ask the câmara municipal what the PDM allows on that specific plot. Ask in writing, and make the purchase conditional on the answer.
