Frequently asked questions

Is Re-locant.com really free?
Yes — every guide, calculator and the AI assistant are completely free. Re-locant.com is funded by Cosmic Vortex, a licensed Portuguese agency (AMI 26968); we make money only if you later choose to work with us.
Do I need a visa to move to Portugal?
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens do not — they just register locally. Everyone else needs a national visa first, most commonly the D7 (passive income) or D8 (remote work).
Which visa is the easiest / cheapest?
The D7 has the lowest income bar (around the Portuguese minimum wage), which is why retirees and passive-income earners use it. The D8 suits remote workers but asks for meaningfully higher income.
How long does the whole move take?
Budget a few months for the visa and AIMA steps. If you are bringing a pet from outside the EU, start earlier — the rabies blood test adds a mandatory 3-month wait.
Can I use public healthcare and schools?
Once you hold a residence permit, yes — the public health service (SNS) and state schools are open to residents, and there is language support (PLNM) for children.
