Moved house? How to change your address with AIMA
You moved, and AIMA still has the old address. It feels like paperwork for later — until your renewal is due.
The route: AIMA's contact form
1. Open the contact form at contactenos.aima.gov.pt.
2. Type of issue: Portal das Renovações.
3. Sub-type: Comunicar/retificar Morada.
4. Enter the new address and attach the documents the form asks for.
AIMA says that once you submit, it updates the address within two working days at most.
Other data, or a lost card
Since March 2025 the same contact form also takes requests to change the data of your residence authorisation and to get a second copy of the card: choose Autorização de Residência as the topic. You attach a copy of your passport and residence card, proof of the reason for the change — and, for a second copy, the police report of the loss or theft.
The 90-day limit. AIMA accepts these requests only up to 90 days before your card expires. If you have moved, do it early rather than on the eve of the renewal.
When the form throws an error
There are reports of the form failing on every device and browser tried. If it happens to you, take a dated screenshot of the error and call the contact centre on (+351) 217 115 000, Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 20:00. The screenshot is your proof that you tried in time.
