IRS: child deduction doubles from the third child
Parliament has approved the final text of a CDS-PP proposal that doubles the IRS deductions for dependants from the third child onwards, ECO reports, citing Lusa. The full increase applies to tax years starting on 1 January 2028; a transitional rule gives a 50% increase from 1 January 2027. PCP and BE voted against and Livre abstained. The article does not give the new amounts in euros.
Why it matters for your move
If you are tax resident in Portugal and have three or more children, your IRS bill for 2027 will already be lower, and lower again from 2028. Nothing to apply for: the deduction comes from listing each child as a dependant in your household's IRS return, so check they are all there.
