Atestado de residência

A proof-of-address certificate issued by your local Junta de Freguesia.

Where people slip: it is not accepted by AIMA as proof of accommodation for a residence permit — that changed with AIMA’s communication of 29 November 2025, and it catches people who bring it in good faith. Since 28 April 2025 an incomplete file is rejected rather than corrected, so arriving with the wrong document costs you the appointment, not just the day.

Do this: use the atestado where it still works — school enrolment, registering with the health centre, local formalities. For AIMA, bring what they now require instead: a sworn declaration of address together with a rental contract and a recent rent receipt, or the property documents if you own.
