Mortgage lending hits €118bn — the biggest monthly jump since 2009
Banco de Portugal data for July puts the stock of housing loans at €118 billion, the highest ever recorded. The month-on-month increase of €1.2 billion is the largest since December 2009, seventeen years ago. ECO links much of the demand to the state guarantee scheme for young buyers, launched in early 2025 and reinforced since.
