Finanças asks 33,000 landlords to close expired leases by 30 September

Re-locant.com · Cosmic Vortex · Notícias ao Minuto · Sep 8, 2026

The tax authority (AT) emailed 33,381 landlords whose non-renewable leases had already reached their end date before 1 April 2026 but still appear as active in its records. They are asked to answer an alert in the Portal das Finanças and report any change or termination of the contract by 30 September. AT notes that some landlords may already have fixed the situation before the alert arrived, because of the gap between selecting the cases and sending the emails.

Why it matters for your move

If you let property, check your contracts in the Portal das Finanças before 30 September. If you rent, state rent support relies on the contract registered there — worth confirming yours shows correctly.

This is Re-locant.com’s own brief, written to explain what the update means for people moving to or living in Portugal. For the full original report, see the source below.
