AIMA: 24-hour national strike on 6 October, and its president is leaving

Re-locant.com · Cosmic Vortex · The Portugal News · Sep 24, 2026

The Union of Migration Technicians (STM) has called a 24-hour national strike of AIMA staff for 6 October. It wants its own technical career and a pay supplement like the one proposed for GNR and PSP officers, and says its request for a meeting went unanswered. At the same time AIMA's president, Pedro Portugal Gaspar, in office since 29 July 2024, is leaving to become a board member of the Competition Authority; his appointment still goes through a hearing in Parliament.

Why it matters for your move

If your AIMA appointment falls on 6 October, check with AIMA before you travel: no one has yet said whether appointments that day will go ahead. Delays already have a legal deadline you can count yourself.

This is Re-locant.com’s own brief, written to explain what the update means for people moving to or living in Portugal. For the full original report, see the source below.
