I didn't arrive in Portugal with everything figured out. Like most people reading this, I came from somewhere else — with a suitcase, a rough plan, and a hundred small questions nobody could answer in one place.

The frustrating part wasn't Portugal. It was the information. It sat in scattered forum threads, in half-updated blog posts, in the fine print of a law nobody linked to. And around all of it circled people charging real money for things that are, honestly, public and free — a NIF, a bank appointment, a checklist you could write yourself if only someone had shown you the order.

The mistakes were the expensive part. The bank account a consulate wouldn't accept because it was "just a fintech". The apostille that expires in about 90 days, done too early. The tax rule quoted from a 2022 guide that had already changed. None of these are hard — but each one costs weeks, or worse, money, when you find out too late.

So I did the boring, proper thing

I got licensed. Cosmic Vortex is a registered Portuguese real-estate agency (AMI 26968) — which means when I tell you something about buying, renting or the rules around it, I'm accountable for it, not just guessing on a forum.

And then I made a decision that some colleagues thought was strange: the guide would be free. Completely. No paywall, no "book a €150 discovery call", no drip-feed of information to squeeze a subscription out of you.

Why free actually makes sense

Because the enemy of a good move isn't your wallet — it's the guesswork. Some of you will, later, want a licensed agent to actually help you buy or rent here — and if we've earned it, that's when we work together. The guide stays free either way.

That's the whole model. No tricks. If a number on Re-locant.com isn't verified, we say so. If a rule hasn't started yet, we tell you the date. If we don't know, we point you to the official source instead of making something up.
